Here’s the thing: when it comes to style, common sense isn’t so common. I mean, have you looked around lately? Women, especially in their 30s, are making one fashion faux pas after another. They’re out here rocking girly, tight-fitting tops that hug every contour, cellulite and all, without a second thought. Come on, ladies, at this age, you need to hide those lines, not highlight them! It’s all about creating a sleek, flattering silhouette. You don’t need to broadcast every roll and ripple just because it’s trendy to wear a top that doesn’t do you any favors. A little fabric strategy can go a long way in looking slimmer and more polished. And don’t even get me started on the makeup disasters! So many women out there slap on half a dozen layers of foundation to cover up acne and skin issues like it’s the solution. Spoiler alert: it's not. That much makeup only emphasizes the problem! Newsflash: beautiful skin is the best makeup you can wear. No amount of cakey foundation or filters can replace the glow of healthy, well-taken-care-of skin. How about some skincare before you hit the makeup counter, yeah? Invest in that first, because no amount of makeup will fix a skin crisis if you're not putting in the work. Oh, and the hair—don’t think I haven’t noticed the thinning, brittle locks everywhere. Girls with split ends and hair that’s seen better days are rushing to the salons for chemical treatments like rebonding or keratin. Guess what? You’re only making it worse! No amount of fancy salon treatments will bring your hair back to life if you keep frying it. You want healthy, voluminous hair? Maybe start with some hydration and lay off the chemicals. But sure, go ahead and fry it further, because who needs volume when you can have a head of brittle, stringy hair, right? You don’t have to be a fashion expert to figure out what suits you. Take me, for instance—I know I won’t be caught dead in skinny jeans with my flat feet. And as much as I love bell bottoms, at 5’2”, they’d just make me look shorter and stouter than I already am. Common sense, ladies—it’s not that hard. Fashion isn’t rocket science, but it does require a little self-awareness. So, next time you’re reaching for that too-tight top or considering another round of chemical torture on your hair, maybe pause and rethink your life choices. I do get stuck sometimes when it comes to fashion choices, but luckily, there's Vikesh, a brilliant fashion student at LPU who lives nearby. I always turn to him for advice on whether to go ahead with a new purchase or not. He has an incredible eye for style and is currently preparing a showstopper dress for an upcoming ramp walk at LPU. How cool is that? It's so interesting to see his creative process unfold!
